Weekly TD-SCDMA Update March 3-9
March 07, 2008
- Network trials based on Chinese homegrown TD-SCDMA standard have been completed, and will be ready for commercial launch in time for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, according to Reuters News. In addition to employees of the telecoms involved and professional users, who have participated in field tests in 10 Chinese cities, China Mobile is going to allow local residents to test the network before it is ready for commercialization, South China Morning Post reported.

- According to China Telecom Newswire, China Mobile and China's NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) plan to carry out the construction of second-phase TD-SCDMA network in about 300 cities instead of 80 cities as previously reported. According to the same source, the commencement of second-phase network construction has been postponed to the end of March or the beginning of April 2008. China Mobile, however, declined to reveal further details on the project.
